AMBASSADOR D.PRANCKEVIČIUS PRESENTED CREDENTIAL LETTERS TO THE PRESIDENT OF IRAN

Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Darius Pranckevičius on the 5th of May presented credential letters to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

During the course of conversation with the President of Iran, ambassador Darius Pranckevičius underlined the interest of Lithuania to maintain the political dialog with Iran, develop economic and cultural cooperation, tourism and exchange of students. According to the ambassador ”Lithuania as a member of the EU, contributes to the formulating relations between this organization and Iran”.

The leader of Iran welcomed Lithuanian Ambassador to the Tehran. M. Ahmadinejad told that „Iran is willing to develop the 80 years lasting relations with Lithuania”. The President agreed with an opinion of Ambassador on the necessity to explore the potential for cooperation, especially in the sphere of scientific research.

Darius Pranckevicius is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey, residing in Ankara.

In 1930 an Agreement of Friendship between the Republic of Lithuania and Persian Empire was signed. In 1991 Iran had confirmed to Lithuania, that this agreement is still being in force.

Trade between Lithuania and Iran was 39.9m in 2007.
