Attention! For legalization of documents, you have to book an appointment time. A consular fee of 20 Eur per document is charged for the legalization or certification with an Apostille. Legalization of documents allows official documents originating from one country to be recognized when presented in another country. Legalization is a verification of the signature, name, surname and the position of the signatory and the stamp in the document in cases of bearing the stamp applied on the document.
Apostille is a simplified method of authentication whereby the document is authenticated only in the issuing country by a special certificate - an Apostille - in accordance with the Hague Convention on the Abolition of Legalisation of Foreign Documents. The documents issued by the authorities of The Republic of Türkiye and The Islamic Republic of Pakistan are approved by Aposttile by Turkish or Pakistani authorities respectively and do not have to be legalized additionally. Such documents are accepted by the Lithuanian authorities without further legalisation.
Legalization of documents issued by foreign authorities
The Embassy of Lithuania in Türkiye accepts for legalization of documents issued by the countries of accreditation – The Islamic Republic of Iran and The State of Qatar. The documents must bear the legalization stamp of the authorized officer of the respective Embassy in Türkiye.
Attention! You can only register for this service if you meet these conditions:
- You have submitted an application for a temporary residence permit (TRP) in Lithuania to the Migration Department of the Ministry of Interior and the application has received one of the following statuses: "Application submitted to external service provider", "Application accepted", "Decision taken", "Application suspended".
- Your application has MIGRIS number, which means that the Migration Department has already conducted a preliminary examination of your applications for TRP;
Documents are accepted in person or through an authorized representative. An authorized representative can be a family member, friend, trusted individual, or professional with relevant expertise. Up to 5 documents may be submitted during 1 appointment. Documents submitted for legalization have to be orderly and readable. If the document consists of few pages, they have to be affixed or sewn together. Each document is approved separately (e. g. diploma and its appendix are two (2) separate documents).
The legalization of Police Clearance Certificates for foreign citizens who intend to study in Lithuania is done at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania through the educational institutions. The students should contact the educational institutions in Lithuania, in which they plan to study and to clarify the process of legalization of documents.
Legalization and certification with an Apostille of documents issued by the authorities of the Republic of Lithuania
Documents are accepted in person or by a representative. Documents requiring an Apostille are forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, which may take up to 2 months to process.
