Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Restoration of the State of Lithuania

On February 16th, on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Restoration of the State of Lithuania the Embassy of Lithuania in Turkey hosted a reception in Ankara. Minister of Economy of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mr Nihat Zeybekci, as well as members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey,  state officials, representatives of science, culture and business, foreign diplomats, international and Lithuanian communities took part in the event.

During the celebration, traditional dances and songs were performed by the folk ensemble “Raskila”, national costumes from the region of Aukštaitija were shown. Guests had a chance to try traditional Lithuanian tree cakes made by the Lithuanian community in Ankara.

On February 16th, the Mass in the French Catholic Church in Istanbul  was held by the priest Gediminas Jankūnas. This was the first time that Catholic Mass has been held in Lithuanian language in Turkey. Event was organised by the Lithuanians living in Istanbul.

On February 17th, Lithuanians living in Turkey have gathered together in Istanbul to commemorate a centenary of the restoration of Lithuania. Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania and  other Lithuanian diplomats from the Embassy in Ankara, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Istanbul Mr Sarper Cengiz and more than 100 Lithuanians have attended the event. The folk ensemble “Raskila” and the Turkish-Lithuanian children choir "Du Gaideliai" have performed at the event.

On May 12th, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Embassies will host a joint concert in Ankara for the anniversary of the centenary of the three Baltic States restoration. Artists from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will perform with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. Also, Embassies of the organize a drawing contest for students named “The Amber Road: From the Bosphorus to the Baltics”. The winners of the contest will be awarded with the trips to Vilnius, Riga and Talinn.
