CULTURE FESTIVAL IN KARS
The 4th Festival of Caucasus Culture was held on October 3-5 in Kars. Vilnius University folk band "Jaunimėlis", headed by Bronislovas Glovickis came thousands of miles from Vilnius to Kars located near Armenian border to present Lithuanian dances and songs. Folk bands from Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Romania and Norway took part in the festival. Festival, initiated by a mayor of Kars Naif Alibeyoglu, has not only cultural dimension – it is an important political event in the region as well. Near closed border between Turkey and Armenia many representatives from all the regions meet every year. Turkish Minister of Culture, governors of the region, mayors, and diplomatic corpus came to the Festival. On this occasion the Ambassador of Lithuania, Darius Pranckevicius had also taken an opportunity to participate in the event.
