Delegation of parliamentarians of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania visited Turkey

On December 1-3, a delegation of parliamentarians of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania visited Turkey.

On December 1, in Ankara, the Lithuanian delegation,  led by Mr Žygimantas Pavilionis, Chairman of the Seimas’ Committee on Foreign Affairs, laid a wreath at the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Founder and First President of the Republic of Turkey. Afterwards, meetings were held with the leaders and members of the Foreign Affairs, National Security and Defense Committees of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the  Turkey-Lithuania Interparliamentary Friendship Group. During said meetings, Mr Žygimantas Pavilionis the Head of the delegation, Mr Kazys Starkevičius,  the Chairman of the Interparliamentary group for relations with the Republic of Turkey, and Mr Gintautas Paluckas the Deputy Head of of the Interparliamentary group for relations with the Republic of Turkey, discussed cooperation between the Lithuanian and Turkish Parliaments, foreign issues and business development opportunities. All parties agreed to continue parliamentary cooperation and organize business missions.

 

On December 2, delegation of parliamentarians left for Istanbul to meet with Mr Sarper Cengiz, Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Istanbul and Mrs Daiva Matoniene, Team Leader at the project „EU4 Energy Transition: Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey'' implemented by Central Project Management Agency. Possibilities for deeper cooperation between Lithuanian and Turkish municipalities on environmental issues were discussed.
