Happy Children’s Day, Turkey!

On the occasion of the 98th Anniversary of April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day in Turkey, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania is extending warm greetings to all its Turkish partners and friends. To commemorate the Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s day, the Ambassador of Lithuania Audrius Brūzga and Embassy Staff members paid a visit to Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and the first President of the Republic of Turkey.

It was on April 23, 1920 when the Grand National Assembly of Turkey convened for the first time and laid down the foundations of an independent and modern Republic of Turkey. Also, it is a day when the Turkish Republic’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, dedicated the fledgling Republic to the children who would inherit it.

Turkey was the first country in the World to have an official holiday dedicated to the children.

In recognition and in appreciation of this the Lithuanian Embassy has been carrying out a few projects in Turkey in cooperation with the local public schools.  One of them, being implemented by the Community of Lithuanians in Turkey, involves two primary schools in the Alanya district and offers programs and projects in extracurricullar learning and social activities. The other one is a drawing competition under the auspices of the PERA Festivals, organized by the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Embassies in Turkey, on the occasion of the Restoration of  independence of Baltic States, „The Amber Road: From the Bosphorus to the Baltics“. The competition is open to all secondary school students in Turkey. The winners will travel to the Baltic capitals of Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius.
