Historical Columns of Gediminas at Emirgan Park, Istanbul

On April 14th, the opening of the tulip composition depicting the historical Columns of Gediminas took place at Emirgan Park, Istanbul. The tulip composition of the Columns of Gediminas is a part of the famous Istanbul Tulip Festival.

The Istanbul Tulip Festival is taking place every April since 2006.

The tulip composition is a gift from the Lithuanian Community in Turkey to Lithuania in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Restoration of the State of Lithuania. This event was supported by the Ministry‘s of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania program “Global Lithuania” that invites Lithuanians living abroad to get involved into Lithuania’s life and to use the knowledge and experience to contribute to the prosperity of Lithuania. The Lithuanian community in Istanbul together with the administration of the Governor of Istanbul and the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul implemented the idea of the tulip composition of the Columns of Gediminas.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Turkey H.E. Audrius Bruzga, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Istanbul Mr Sarper Cengiz, the Deputy Governor of the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul Mr Ismail Gultekin and other representatives from the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul have attended the event to commemorate a centenary of the restoration of Lithuania. During the opening ceremony, the folk ensemble “Raskila” performed traditional folk music and presented national costumes that left a great impression for the Turkish people.
