Lithuanian Expertise Shared in Turkish Institutions
On February 27, 2018 a Closure Conference took place in Ankara which marked the successful conclusion of the 18 month long EU financed project “Technical Assistance for Improving Administrative Capacity of Border Management at Local Level”, IBM LOC-CAP.
Training sessions, local study visits and EU study visits were organized to enable the local administrators of Turkey to learn EU best practices in integrated border management. The Turkish Ministry of Interior and the EU Delegation in Ankara gave a very good evaluation of the project, in particular noting the high teaching quality and high participation in training sessions: 485 local administrators from 80 out of 81 Turkey’s provinces participated in the project activities which amounts to 60 percent of local officials involved in decision making on border management. A study visit to Lithuania was seen as one of the most successful ones. The Project Team Leader was Mr Nerijus Songaila.
Recently Lithuanian experts have started implementing in Turkey another two EU technical assistance (Twinning) projects, namely:
- Establishment of a National Coordination & Joint Risk Analysis Center (NACORAC) and an Integrated Border Management Integrated Database
- Increasing the Organizational Capacity of the Women and Children Sections (WCS) of the Gendarmerie General Comman
