Lithuanian representatives shared their experience with Turkish municipalities in implementing the Green Agenda goals
On 18 January, the Lithuanian delegation, led by the President of the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities Mindaugas Sinkevičius, presented the country's experience in the field of energy and climate change to the representatives of the Turkish authorities and municipalities.
Welcoming the participants of the event "Development of the Concept of the Multilevel Energy and Climate Policy Implementation Plan in Turkey", Mr Ričardas Degutis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Turkey, emphasized the importance of developing friendly relations between Lithuania and Turkey, the European Union and Turkey, including the implementation of the European Green Deal, as well as greater opportunities for bilateral cooperation at the municipal level.
On the margins of the event, the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities and the Association of Turkish Municipalities has signed a cooperation agreement aimed at activating local government relations and cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, education, sports, local business, development cooperation, public administration improvement, environmental protection, climate change, urban development and energy management, organization of local public transport and other areas. Further cooperation will be focused on tackling the challenges of climate change and the implementation of the Green Agenda goals. The Embassy of Lithuania in Turkey also contributed to the signing of this bilateral agreement.
The discussion between the representatives of municipalities was organized within the framework of the EU project “EU4 Energy Transition Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey“. In Turkey, this project is implemented by the Central Project Management Agency, and the Lithuanian Association of Municipalities acts as a partner.
