Lithuanian Tatar history and culture presented in Ankara

On 17th of December, the Embassy of Lithuania to Turkey, in collaboration with the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Crimean Tatar Association, and the Embassy of Ukraine to Turkey, organized a cultural event on the occasion of 2021 – the Year of Lithuanian Tatar History and Culture. This event inaugurated an exhibition presenting Lithuanian Tatar community, its history, and cultural heritage. The special occasion was also marked by the performances of Tatar children musical and dance ensembles from both Turkey and Ukraine. 

In his welcoming speech, the Lithuanian ambassador to Turkey Ricardas Degutis pointed out that the event is an exceptional occasion to pay respect to the Tatar communities in Lithuania, Turkey, and in occupied Crimea. The ambassador expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian Tatar community for their contribution to Lithuania’s statehood and for their current efforts in creating democratic, free, and vibrant Lithuanian society.
