Lithuanian -Turkish Political Consultations in Ankara

On March 30, 2016 Lithuanian – Turkish political consultations were held in Ankara. The Lithuanian delegation, led by Vice Minister Neris Germanas was hosted by Deputy Under Secretary, Ambassador Murat Salim Esenli. At the meeting a wide range of issues were addressed, among them: ever intensifying political and economic cooperation, issues pertaining to regional security, fight against terrorism, EU-Turkey cooperation and preparations to the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw.

Both parties agreed on the need to have solidarity and close cooperation in the face of emerging global challenges. Regarding the EU-Turkey cooperation, Vice Minister Germanas put a strong emphasis on the implementation of the agreement reached at the Turkey – EU Summit on March 18th. The Turkish side voiced support to the Lithuanian bid to become member of the OECD.

The consultations in Ankara also covered developments in Ukraine, situation of the Crimean Tatars in the Russia-annexed Crimean peninsular and the security situation in the Middle East.

The Lithuanian delegation paid tribute to the victims of the March 13 terror attack in Ankara and put flowers at the makeshift memorial in Guven Park in Kizilay.
