The Second Congress of Crimean Tatars denounced annexation of Crimea

The Second World Congress of Crimean Tatars was held in Ankara on August 1-2, 2015.

Participants of the Congress denounced illegal annexation of Crimea and called on the International Community to do everything in their power to end the consequences of occupation. Crimean Tatars reasserted their right to live freely and keep their national identity in their historic land. Internationally recognized leader of the Crimean Tatars and long-time dissident, Mr Mustafa Mustafa Dzhemilev spoke of discrimination and sanctions against his people. The  Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr Pavlo Klimkin who also attended the meeting, announced the decision of President Poroshenko to grant autonomy to the Crimean Tatar community within the sovereign Ukraine.

The Lithuanian Tatar Community has also sent a delegation to the Congress headed by the Chairman of the Community, Mr Adas Jakubauskas. In recognition of his contribution to the cause of the Tatars worldwide, Mr Jakubauskas was elected to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Parliament or Mejlis.
